An exciting opportunity here, with the owners of the property wanting a garden with formality and symmetry. Apart from a new boat shed which occupied a quarter of the plot, the garden was a blank canvas.

My immediate thought was to try and draw the eye away from the shed, by creating another distraction in the form of trellis. This acted as a climbing support for some pretty Sollyas, and also provided the bottom of the garden some screening allowing me to create a more relaxed feel. A painted bench gives you a chance to sit in the sun or in the evening, in front of the fire bowl . There are also herb beds and a small vegetable bed.

Although the main part of the garden is rather formal, the planting is soft and colourful . In October I planted many bulbs which will initiate the flowering season much earlier.
